Peel Region has two legal clinics: Mississauga Community Legal Services (“MCLS”) assists people who live in Mississauga and Malton, and North Peel & Dufferin Community Legal Services (“NPDCLS”) assists people who live in Brampton, Caledon, and Dufferin County. Both clinics are non-profit corporations staffed by lawyers, community legal workers and administrative staff and directed by a volunteer Board of Directors, whose members come from the community.
OUR MANDATE Our mandate is to provide free legal information, advice and representation to low-income residents of Peel in areas of law that are practiced by the clinics.
MEMBERSHIP
Why should you become a member of the legal clinic?
- You can provide important feedback so that the clinic can provide a high level of service to your community
- You can attend the Annual General Meeting and have a vote on who you want to represent the community’s interests on the Board of Directors
- You could be elected to our Board of Directors (if you are not an active client of the clinic)
Who can become a member?
- Anyone who works or lives in Mississauga /Malton can become a member of MCLS, and anyone who works or lives in Brampton, Caledon, or Dufferin County can become a member of NPDCLS
OUR FUNDING We are funded by Legal Aid Ontario (LAO). LAO has a website where you can learn about other clinics and other legal aid services in Ontario: www.legalaid.on.ca.
